The Chicago area has lost another rocker from its stable, with David Draiman, the lead singer of the band Disturbed, taking a major loss in selling his long-time three-bedroom home in Wicker Park for $695,000.
Built in 1900, the 2,576-square-foot Wicker Park house has 2 1/2 baths, hardwood and custom tile floors throughout, a 20-foot ceiling with new skylights, a security system with surveillance cameras, a 500-square-foot roof deck crafted from Brazilian Ipe wood and a kitchen with a stainless steel backsplash and Bosch, Sub-Zero and Viking appliances. The master suite has an all-slate bath with body sprays and custom woodwork.
Draiman, who is unmarried, purchased the house in 2005 for $849,000. The house first was listed for $734,900 and was later reduced to $724,900 before it went under contract.
Now based in Texas, Draiman, 36, has been paring his real estate portfolio for the last two years. In October 2007, Draiman sold a 6,870-square-foot house in Los Angeles’ Northridge neighborhood for $2.85 million, and he sold a 3,864-square-foot house in L.A.’s Sherman Oaks area around the same time for $1.53 million.
“It was a fun house to sell because of the way it was decorated,” said listing agent Mike Kaplan of Dream Town Realty. “It’s such a cool house, with a lot of customized metal in it. And the deck was really beautiful. It was a perfect house for a single guy.”
Draiman is the latest rocker to leave town in recent years. Following former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha and rocker Liz Phair.
