According to a government report issued on Wednesday, home building rebounded form a six-month low in November with improvement in new home reconstruction in all sections of the nation.
Construction of new homes rose to an annual rate of 574,000 during the month, 8.9% above the revised October rate of 527,000. The gain is a hopeful sign that the housing recovery is continuing, a development viewed as critical to lifting the overall economy out of recession.
Meanwhile, applications for new building permits were also up, rising 6 percent to an annual rate of 584,000 units, a stronger showing than economists predicted.
